About us

Our mission is to influence the power of youth work across range of settings to benefit the lives of young people and the communities they live in.

United Youth Alliance CIC (UYA), founded n 2018, is a not for profit organisation, working alongside young people, the community sector, public and private organisations to develop and promote social action initiatives.  UYA offer co-designed community and youth led projects, which include social action, research, training and events, that in turn support and develop communities.

Who are we?

We are a team of frontline practitioners including of JNC youth workers, youth support workers, volunteers, teachers, substance workers, IAG practitioners, business and community leaders. We are a learning organisation that supports the development and creates opportunities for our communities.

“Rather than standing or speaking for young people, we need to stand with young people speaking for themselves. We don’t need a political movement for young people… we need to build environments and policies for our collective future.”

– Sandra Meucci (Author)

Becoming United Youth Alliance

First incorporated in 2018, The Washington Group (TWG) successfully worked alongside communities to co-create key social action projects and action research, bringing people together to drive the changes they wanted to see. As our work evolved and the needs of the communities we support continued to grow, we felt it was time to take the next step in our journey.

In August 2023, we undertook a strategic rebrand and became United Youth Alliance (UYA). As a team of dedicated practitioners, we revisited our shared purpose and aligned ourselves with a renewed focus on sustainable youth social action. While our core projects and existing commitments remain unchanged, this new direction reflects our ambition to create lasting impact in the communities we serve.

Looking forward, we will continue our current work while also overseeing the formation of new initiatives, including the Coastal Social Action Group, the Young Researchers Project, and community development efforts. In addition, we are committed to delivering intergenerational projects that prioritise voice, substance, quality, and accountability.

A Prestigious Achievement

We are incredibly proud to have been honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, a testament to our commitment to making a difference. This prestigious award, received by only eight organisations in Lancashire, highlights the impact of our work and the dedication of our team.

Working Together for Positive Change

UYA has always believed in the power of collaboration. We work hand-in-hand with communities to co-create social action projects and action research that inspire change.

In 2023, recognising the growing needs of our communities, we decided to take a bold step forward, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our journey, launching the first of it’s kind Coastal Social Action initiative
