Level 1 Youth Work Certificate
Learning Hours
- This course consists of six units
- Total credit value is seventeen
- Total qualification time is 161 hours
The Level 1 Certificate in Exploring Youth Work has been developed to enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding of working within the youth work sector. The units within this qualification are all mandatory to ensure learners are well equipped to progress onto further training opportunities.
This course is fully delivered online.

Who is this course for
This course is suitable for people who are new to youth work and would benefit those on a pathway from young person to young leader within their organisation as well as volunteers new to the youth support worker role or just starting out in youth work.
Minimum requirements
While some experience of working with young people in a voluntary or paid role would be beneficial, the course can before those just starting to engage with young people
Learner age is 14 +
Delivery overview
The following units will be covered:
Welcome and introduction to the course.
- An introduction to the Youth Work Sector
- Communication and group work skills
- Delivering a youth work programme
- Safe practice within a youth work setting
- Self assessment for youth work practice
- Working with young people in the local community
Delivery tutors
Online Tutors – All our tutors are JNC qualified and have extensive experience in the delivery of this course
This course consists of online webinar learning sessions as well as face to face delivery, which will last for 3 hours each. The course also involves periods of self-guided learning and support from dedicated line manager or mentor. This course can be tailored to meet the needs of the learners should they be from the same organisation (such as a young leaders programme)
Learners have access to support and guidance from their tutor via the online delivery and professional discussion. There will be an expectation that all learners have support from their organisation and a dedicated line manager and/mentor.
Each of the units will have set assessment hand in dates after each taught session, an assessment plan will be provided, and each leaner will receive summative feedback and support.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, you will:
- Understand the purpose of youth work
- Be more aware of the legislation and policies relating to youth work
- Have increased knowledge of how to deliver youth work programmes and the value of participation.
- Greater understanding of health and safety procedures and policies relevant to youthwork and their organisation.
Progression route
Learners will be certificated for all units and qualifications that are achieved. Learners who successfully complete this Level 1 could progress to the Level 2 qualification in youth work.
