Level 3 Certificate in Cultural Awareness of the LGBTQ+ Community
Learning Hours
- This course consists of four units
- Total credit value is 18
- Total qualification time is 180 hours
The qualification has been designed to provide learners with a general understanding of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community. Learners will gain enhanced knowledge and understanding of the issues facing individuals who identify as being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBTQ+) and to apply that knowledge within the workplace while creating a positive and inclusive environment.
This course is fully delivered online.

Who is this course for
The course is suitable for anyone who has responsibility for HR in their organisations, for those who work within the LGBTQ+ community, youthworkers, community workers, volunteers, NHS staff, statutory and public services and anyone in business or the community. It embraces and supports equality and equitable fairness across our communities. This course will embed equality in organisations and companies
The level 3 certificate course is taught over six months. The course requires commitment from you, your supervisor and organisation due to the nature of the learning and your role.
Minimum requirements
- Currently working/volunteering alongside the community i.e. community based setting, youth services, schools/colleges, statutory, NHS, public services
- Learner age is 16 +
- You will need the necessary support and supervision in place to support your reflective practice

Delivery tutors
Online Tutors – All our tutors are PGCE qualified and have extensive experience in the delivery of this course alongside lived experience
This course consists of online webinar learning sessions which will last for 2 hours each.
The course involves periods of self-guided learning and requires support from dedicated line manager or mentor.
Learners have access to support and guidance from their tutor via the online delivery and professional discussion. There will be an expectation that all learners have support from their organisation and a dedicated line manager and/mentor.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, you will have developed knowledge, skills and theory and applied this in real world practice in:
- Key moments in LGBTQ+
- Legislation relevant to LGBTQ+
- The impact of key LGBTQ+ equality champions in the introduction of equality legislation
- Theory of sexual orientation relevant to LGBTQ+ groups
- Sexuality relevant to individual groups
- Understanding the impact of Homophobia
- Understand LGBT+ equality in provision of goods and services in organisations
- How positive role models can support the progression of LGBQT+ rights
Progression route
This qualification has been designed to support progression within the workplace to support you to take on additional roles/responsibilities or to improve practices across your own organisation. It could also support your progression to further learning or training in relation to a complementary subject at the same or higher level, including:
- Level 3 Certificate in Mentoring
You could also explore applying for a higher-level Apprenticeship.
