International Women’s Day 2026 – Strength in Solidarity
United Youth Alliance’s International Women’s Day 2026 activity brought together young women from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to celebrate women’s achievements, strengthen connections and take action for equality and safety. Through collaboration, creativity and shared experiences, young women had the opportunity to raise their voices and explore the issues affecting women and girls today.
As part of the programme, young women worked together through a cross-nation hackathon, exploring issues including sexualisation, gender norms, stereotypes and violence against women and girls. They transformed their ideas and experiences into powerful banners to take to the Reclaim the Agenda march and rally in Belfast, standing alongside thousands of people calling for an end to violence against women and girls.
The programme continued with a youth-led murder mystery exploring serious issues such as abuse, coercive control, grooming and harmful behaviours, creating an engaging way for young women to develop their understanding and recognise warning signs. Alongside this, UYA delivered Violence Against Women and Girls training to schools, youth groups and clubs, supporting young people to understand consent, healthy relationships and how they can challenge harmful attitudes and behaviours.
The experience left young women feeling proud, empowered and connected, demonstrating the strength of collaboration across communities and borders. International Women’s Day 2026 was a powerful reminder that when young women come together, share their voices and support one another, they can help create meaningful and lasting change.
